Porcelain veneers are a cosmetic enhancement available in Mississauga, ON

Porcelain Veneers

At R Dentists in Mississauga, ON, we offer our patients a wide variety of cosmetic dental procedures, including porcelain veneers. Veneers are a versatile smile enhancement solution that can be used to address a wide variety of tooth imperfections from disguising minor cosmetic flaws to completing an entire smile makeover.

What are veneers?

Veneers are ultra-thin strips of porcelain that are bonded to the front surface of teeth. Porcelain is used because it is a durable material that closely resembles tooth enamel, is resistant to staining, and can withstand the force of biting and chewing.

Veneers can be used on a single tooth or all visible teeth to cover chips, cracks, irregular shapes, differing sizes, minor misalignment, and permanent discoloration.

The veneers procedure

Having porcelain veneers placed is a straightforward procedure, however, it does require multiple appointments. During the consultation, we will evaluate the state of your oral health. Any decay or gum disease present will need to be addressed prior to receiving veneers. Once the teeth are healthy, we can take impressions of your teeth and send them to the dental lab for creation of the veneers. A small portion of the enamel will be removed to allow the veneers to fit properly.

When the custom veneers are ready, you will return to the office for final placement. The veneers will be temporarily placed on the teeth to check for proper fit. Any minor adjustments can be made at the office before permanent placement.

Taking care of your veneers

With proper care, veneers can last for decades or longer. By following a few simple steps, you can make sure that you keep your new veneers looking great.

  1. Practice good oral hygiene. Daily brushing with a soft toothbrush and non-abrasive toothpaste along with flossing will keep the teeth clean.
  2. Maintain regular dental appointments. Teeth with veneers are still susceptible to decay, so it’s important to keep up with exams and cleanings.
  3. Avoid biting on hard objects. While porcelain is strong, it is still susceptible to breakage.
