Fraxel™ - Related FAQ's
Q: My cheeks have gotten very brown after pregnancy. What can I do?A: Provided that you’re not nursing or pregnant now, there are many treatments that can help. Melasma is known as the “mask of pregnancy” and can resolve. Different ethnicities are more prone to developing this. Chemical peels, laser treatment such as Fraxel Dual, lightening creams such as prescription hydroquinone, which lately has been questioned, Elure by Syneron, Illume, Azelaic Acid, licorice extract and others, and most importantly religious use of sunscreens with ultraviolet A and B, and sun avoidance all can help.
Q: If I have Fraxel laser resurfacing, can my acne get worse?
A: When I treat acne scars with Fraxel, whether Fraxel Restore or Fraxel Repair laser, I have my patients get their acne under better control prior to the treatment. But, even if there is no current acne, nor prior history, it is usual to see some blemishes from all the swelling and creams that are used after the treatment. This then may need to be treated.
Q: If I have some scarring on my upper arm after having had a tattoo removal with laser, is there some form of other laser resurfacing than can be done to improve the texture?
A: You would need to be examined to see the condition of your scar. Laser can induce post inflammatory hyperpigmentation and scarring off the face. The safest would be to have Fraxel Restore done at gentle energies for the arm and multiple times for some people who undergo resurfacing.
Q: I am scheduled for Fraxel Dual tomorrow and have to go to a wedding in two weeks, will I be OK?
A: Usually the healing occurs in 6 to 7 days, less or more depending on the settings your doctor uses. There may be slight redness and doubtfully any significant swelling by two weeks so there is a very high chance, with a little make up, you will be fine!
Q: I want to get Fraxel laser for my facial scars but I don’t want to spend the money if the results are going to go away in a year or two. How long can the improvement last?
A: We see long term scar improvement, especially acne scars. There does not appear to be a reduction in the improvement and it has been more than a decade since I started to do Fraxel laser.
