Restylane™ - Related FAQ's
Q: If I have an allergy to collagen fillers can I still have Juvederm™?A: Patients do not need a skin test to Juvederm™ or Restylane™ When collagen injections were done we did test for collagen allergy. In fact, double skin tests were done for collagen, but no skin tests are needed for Juvederm™ or Restylane™; that's how rare side effects are.
Q: I was on vacation and had my lips filled with Restylane™ and hate how big they look. It's now been three weeks and they haven't gone down. I feel so self-conscious. What can I do to look more natural?
A: If you are not allergic to the product, you can have hyaluronidase injected into the lips and that will dissolve the Restylane™. It is used to thin out Juvederm™ or Restylane™ if there is overcorrection. It's a very easy treatment. Sometimes you may need more than one treatment, but usually not.
Q: I had Restylane™ injected in one area and I now see a difference in the skin next to it. It looks plumper. Is this a reaction to the Restylane™?
A: If you saw this right away it probably is the Restylane™ being forced into the adjacent skin's dermis during the injection. True immune reactions to Restylane™ are exceedingly rare. See your injector immediately to make sure it's not a delayed infection. If it is Restylane™ that is making the adjacent area more raised, it can be dissolved with hyaluronidase.
Q: I have never had Restylane™ before and want to do it now to look good for a very important event in three weeks. Will I look ok then?
A: Even if you have bad bruising, this should be gone on the face by then and makeup can hide traces of bruising. If you have a lump, it can dissolve quickly after a hyaluronidase injection. Three weeks is a safe period before social functions, most people give themselves one to two weeks after Restylane™ if they're concerned about their appearance looking abnormal from the treatment before an important event.
Q: If too much Perlane is injected in one area, can it be dissolved as Restylane™ and Juvederm™ can?
A: Yes, Perlane is a thicker filler of the Restylane™ type. They are hyaluronic acid fillers. Perlane can be dissolved by hyaluronidase.
Q: I have to take antinflammatory medications for a particular disease. Can I still have Juvederm™ injected?
A: There might be more of a tendency to bruise with the mediation you take and a very rare possibility of a hematoma or collection of blood underneath the skin which could increase the risk of an infection. Again, this is not common, but in elective procedures for cosmetic indications, you should try to avoid the medication that might make you bruise more if possible, but it can be done while taking the medication with a gentle technique and tiny diameter needles.
