Restylane™ - Related FAQ's

Q: My lip had Restylane injected two days ago. It looks very unnatural and tight. Will this go away?

A: Yes, usually, there is much fluid attraction to the area for a few days and after several days, the area becomes less firm. If however, you are unhappy with the appearance of the lips, have your doctor inject hyaluronidase if they think there is too much filler in your lips.

Q: I want to have my cheeks enlarged as they are too hollow. My friend had Radiesse. Is this safe?

A: Radiesse is a great volumizer. It has a high safety record, but complications occur despite what treatment you would have. However, if you don't like the result, you will have to live with it for the year or more that it takes to dissolve. If you had a hyaluronic acid, such as Juvederm or Restylane, as a filler, and you didn't like the result, it could be dissolved with hyaluronidase, but this can't be done with Radiesse. You might then choose to have the hyaluronic acid done first and if you like the cosmetic treatment result, you could then have the Radiesse the next time.

Q: If I have Restylane should I be concerned if my face is tender and warm? It's been a week since the injection.

A: Yes, you should see your doctor. Hopefully a doctor did do your injections, because other non-medical providers might not practice aseptic techniques, and despite infections occurring so rarely after Restylane, you might indeed, have an infection. If the skin isn't cleaned appropriately prior to the injections with a disinfectant, or if there is the use of saved filler for the same patient to be used in the future, there might be a higher chance of developing an infection. You should contact your doctor to evaluate your condition. You might need some antibiotics.

Q: My Restylane never looked good. It was injected for the smile creases but made my cheeks look more puffy and the creases deeper. What can be done to make it look better?

A: Hyaluronidase can be injected to dissolve the filler and it can then be redone.

Q: I have a hollowness in the lower eyelid a few millimeters below the eyelashes. What filler can be done for this?

A: You may need to see a plastic or oculoplastic surgeon as the risks increase in this location. Too much swelling and nodules or bumps can be seen in this thin-skinned area.
