How long will the treatment take?
The treatment time for Restylane™ can take only a few minutes or as much as an hour. This significant time change is largely based on the amount of photo damage, sagging of skin, gravitational effects, fat atrophy, and what the patient wants to accomplish. If a patient is treated solely for smile folds (the creases between the nose and the corners of the mouth, the marionette lines between the corners of the mouth and the chin), a numbing cream is first applied. This is normally done for almost all the patients who have fillers done. The numbing cream is usually allowed to work for about an hour and thereafter, the filler, which takes only a few minutes to apply, is used to treat a patient's smile folds and the marionette lines. After the procedure, ice is applied for a few minutes.
However, the pan facial augmentation or fine-tuning of multiple lines could take more time due to the intricate nature of the treatment. A significant cause of bruising from the procedure is the speed in which the filling is placed, and thus, great care is taken to provide a very slow and gentle treatment. Furthermore, if it is the eyelid and eyebrow area or the tear troughs that the doctor is finessing, it will entail more time.
Since a pan facial augmentation has the ability to increase the size and finesse the shape of the face, the middle cheek, the pre jowl sulcus (the depression found between the chin and the jowl), and the back posterior angle of the jaw, the total time taken for a procedure involving these sub procedures can increase.
Patients with terrible photo damage who are resistant to the idea of undergoing aggressive facial resurfacing with either the use of lasers or dermabrasion because of the resulting wounds, can benefit by having their fine lines increased by undergoing a very diluted widespread filler to plump their thinner dermis.
