Restylane™ - Related FAQ's

Q: If I have a groove underneath my lower eyelid, should laser be done?

A: The tear trough is the groove that lies in the border between the lower eyelid skin and the cheek. This area can be nicely filled, often with Restylane, and that evens out the contour. Lasers don't work well for this condition.

Q: I have thin crease from my corner of the nose to my outer lips. I am 39 years old. Am I too young for fillers?

A: No you're not too young. You might need special technique to fill a superficial crease without creating larger folds near the crease. Subcision is done to lift thin creases, sometimes, before the filler. See a specialist to determine if you are a candidate and if Restylane or Juvederm would be best.

Q: I had a filler injected in my lower eyelid but the Juvederm left a lump. What can I do?

A: If massaging doesn't help spread out the filler, then the doctor will suggest injecting the filler with hyaluronidase, and enzyme that dissolves the filler. It may need to be done more than once.

Q: Can Restylane help make my dark lower eyelid circles less noticeable?

A: Yes. By filling in the tear trough there is less shadow and less darkness. Bruising is a possibility so keep this in mind. It can last for up to two weeks.

Q: I had a chin implant done a year ago and I would like to have Restylane injected into my marionette lines. Is this safe?

A: As long as your surgeon who gave you the implant approves, it should be no problem to get Restylane, as long as your doctor is injecting it using careful aseptic technique and disinfects your skin thoroughly prior to injecting the filler so that the implant does not get an infection near it.

Q: I had a doctor inject Restylane in my lower eyelid last year and I got a bump immediately that day when I left. It has never gone away. Could it still be the filler?

A: Yes, many times, patients have maintained correction longer than one year from Restylane and Juvederm. Have your doctor try injecting hyaluronidase to see if it can melt away the bump if it bothers you to know it's there or if it's visible.

Q: A few months ago my friend in a different city than NY had a doctor inject one syringe of Restylane and charged her $200 less than I paid in NYC. Is this common?

A: The cost of cosmetic procedures varies from city to city and within the same city, different doctors charge differently. What is most important is that you find a doctor that is artisitic, has a gentile touch and listens to your desires and communicates his or her plan well to you so you understand what will be done. Being conservative is also important, because you would rather add than start taking some filler away.
