Blepharoplasty – Upper Eyelid Surgery
Approximate duration of surgery: 1 – 2 hours General Anesthesia or Local Anesthesia
The Procedure
Upper eyelid surgery is one of the most common procedures in cosmetic surgery. This procedure is used to combat a combination of forehead drooping and brow sagging. As a result of this sagging, excess skin develops hooding over the eyelid. Consequently, blocking the superior vision. An upper eyelid blepharoplasty reverses this aged look by removing the excess skin and herniated fat. More importantly, it can improve the visual field. The two main techniques used to perform an upper eyelid blepharoplasty are incisional and non-incisional. A non-incisional approach is more appropriate for younger individuals who do not have much excess skin and fat. For older patients with excess skin and fat, incisional blepharoplasty is often required.
Dr. Nathan will discuss with his patients which approach is recommended depending on the patient’s needs and desired outcome.
