Breast Augmentation
Approximate duration of surgery: 1 – 2 hours General Anesthesia
The Procedure
A breast augmentation procedure is usually sought by women who wish to add volume to their breast and/or change their shape. There are several factors to take into consideration when undergoing breast augmentation: 1) type of implant, 2) location of incision, and 3) placement of implant.
1)There are two types of breast implants, saline and silicone. The general consensus is that silicone implants have a more realistic feel, while saline implants have a “balloon-like” feel. Both saline and silicone-filled implants come in two shapes anatomical (tear-dropped shaped) implants or round implants. 2)There are three incisions to choose from: through the armpit, under the breast, and around the areola-skin border. The ideal location of the incision varies based on patient need and desired outcome. 3)The implant placement can be placed either above the Pectoralis Major muscle or below it.
